The Royal Danish Library is a watercolor capture of the real library in Copenhagen, Denmark. A six week study abroad tour allowed for exploration and observation in many different and new places. When I laid eyes upon the main room of the library I knew I had to capture the architectural grandeur.
Over two weeks I continuously returned to the library to work on the piece. To capture the same angle, I returned to the same seat every time. I started with a full pencil sketch, then re-drew all of my lines in ink. I studied the way the light hit the back window in order to find the correct time of day to start painting in color. In every almost every chair there is usually a person, so I had to make some edits in order to capture only the space with no people. Many obstacles had to be re-worked when a bystander would stand in front of me or a chair was moved.
